Why Digital? Expanding Equity for Children That Cannot Read
Presenter: Sergio Ramirez-Mena, Chief of Party, All Children Reading: A Grand Challenge for Development
All Children Reading: A Grand Challenge (ACR GCD) has promoted digital technology as a means to accelerate digital inclusion of the most marginalized children, including those without books in the languages they use and understand and those with disabilities. Why Digital? We believe we must leverage EdTech in the 21st century. EdTech solutions like digital books and learning materials increase availability, access, use and strengthen local education. It is not about replacing traditional print books but leveraging digital solutions to reach those without access to print books, who can’t use them or who don’t have access to content in languages they use or understand, especially children who are deaf and children with print disabilities. ACR GCD advocates for a shift in the way we think about communication tools so that we can leverage them as learning tools to bring inclusive and culturally appropriate education to children in low-resource contexts and those with disabilities.
