The Challenge
Natural disasters, health crises like Ebola, and country conflicts including the ongoing war in Syria can severely disrupt the delivery and quality of children’s education. Even after the conflict subsides, interruptions in education can have long-term consequences on student enrollment and retention in school, as well as their cognitive, academic and socio-emotional development.
The Big Idea
Outernet's free data multicast transmits a continuous feed of digital media over 7 geostationary satellites, providing global coverage to its signal. Outernet's Lighthouse receiver stores these files and saves them on its internal drive, which can then be viewed with any browser, on any Wi-Fi enabled device, by connecting to the Lighthouse hotspot. In contexts where conflict has strained educational resources and disrupted communications, Outernet can reestablish basic education services for students.
