The Challenge

Natural disasters, health crises like Ebola, and country conflicts including the ongoing war in Syria can severely disrupt the delivery and quality of children’s education. Even after the conflict subsides, interruptions in education can have long-term consequences on student enrollment and retention in school, as well as their cognitive, academic and socio-emotional development.

The Big Idea

VOTO powers an interactive, personalized and measurable platform to engage students on basic mobile phones through interactive voice response (IVR). The content is tied to radio lessons (students call a hotline to respond to a live-poll or to take a quiz) and to text (students receive a call with the audio corresponding to the recently received SMS). The platform's flexibility allows the content to be adjusted to any language or subject matter and to the country's education priorities.
