The Challenge
Literacy in Matènwa is dismally low. Homes have virtually no books in any language. There are no libraries and hardly any informational written materials. One of the major challenges has been the lack of books in Creole for early readers.
The Big Idea
Demonstrated the transferability and effectiveness of a reading instruction approach developed in rural Haiti and based on student-created books written in their mother tongue of Haitian Creole as well as English and French.
Results
More than 200 student-authored mother tongue books available at educavision.com.
Featured Innovation
Mother tongue books (MTB) on Google play
A collection of digital books written by children for children & translated into other languages.
