Literacy instruction in the Armenian education system, literacy instruction remains dependant on old Soviet text-book driven systems of schooling and curriculum. Furthermore, teachers do not have relevant reading literacy assessment instruments in Armenian.

This project aims to (1) develop and field-test a set of informal literacy assessment instruments in Armenian language for periodic use by primary school classroom teachers to better inform literacy instruction in the primary grades in Armenia; and (2) develop and field-test in Armenia tutoring procedures to support the literacy development of students who are reading below grade level.
